Schilling Paradise provides a one year warranty on its services. Even after the Warranty period has expired, you may desire us to perform occasional service requirements. Most electrical items require few repairs beyond the warranty period. However, we do perform service calls at your request and expense after warranties have expired.
We hope that the following information will be useful to you and will help to avoid any inconvenience or unnecessary electrical service calls.
Circuit breakers
Each circuit is protected with a circuit breaker located in the power distribution panel. If the circuit breaker trips, it must be turned to the “off” position to reset, and then turned to the “on” position.
Half hot receptacle
One outlet in the bedroom, living room, and family room are referred to as half hot receptacles. This means the wall switch for the room controls the bottom plug outlet of the receptacle. Occasionally the reverse situation is true. You will need to check your home to determine which situation is true. Clocks and small apparatus that require continuous current must be plugged to the top outlet or it will go on and off with the wall switch. Most times you will also be able to distinguish a half hot outlet by it being installed in the upside down position.
Ground fault interrupter
The bathroom, garage, kitchen, and the outside receptacles are protected by a ground fault interrupter (GFI). This is a safety device to prevent electrical shocks in these areas. If there appears to be no power at the receptacle in these areas, be sure the reset button is depressed and the AGFI system is working properly.
Resetting a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI).
The following instructions explain how to locate the correct GFI, reset the GFI and explain why the GFI might be tripping.
Locate the GFI that controls the circuit that is having the issue:
Bathroom Outlets are non-operational - There will be at least 1 (unless there are over 8 bathrooms in the home, then there will be at least 2) GFI circuits that control all the outlets in the all bathrooms. Normally they can be located in the master or powder bathroom (sometimes the laundry room if there is a sink in that room). Once the GFI is located and reset all the bathroom outlets should work again.
Laundry Room Outlets are non-operational - The laundry room will only be on a GFI circuit if there is a sink in the room. If there is a sink and there is not a GFI in the room it might be on the same circuit as the bathrooms. Once the proper GFI is located and reset the outlets should work again.
Kitchen Outlets are non-operational – The kitchen has at least 2 GFI outlets. They can be located throughout the kitchen in different locations on the counter or on the island if there is a sink on the island.
Garage Outlets are non-operational – There will be at least 1 GFI circuit in the garage. Locate the GFI in the garage and reset it. If resetting the GFI did not fix the problem make sure you have located all known GFI’s in the garage.
Outdoor Outlets are non-operational – There will be at least 1 GFI for the outside outlets. Outside outlets can be controlled by a GFI in the garage or could be controlled by a GFI located on the outside of the home. The best thing to do is to check both the outdoor outlets for a GFI and check the garage GFI’s to see if it repairs the electrical problem.
Press test button
Press reset button
If resetting the GFI does not fix the problem, check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker.
Resetting a Breaker
Look for a breaker that is not in line with others. If you don’t see a breaker out of line, lightly press each breaker toward the off position. If a breaker moves or is out of line then follow these steps.
Push that breaker all the way to the off position, then push it all the way over to the on position. If this doesn’t fix the electrical problem move on to resetting the Main Breaker.
Resetting a Main Breaker
Make sure that all electrical appliances are turned off.
Push all the breakers to the off position. (It is very important to make sure they are in the off position.)
Turn off the main breaker. Make sure to push it all the way over to the off position.
Turn the main breaker back on. Make sure to push it all the way to the on position.
You can proceed to push all the other breakers to the on position one by one. Once again make sure all the breakers are pushed all the way over to the on position.
